Natural Light is committed to achieving superior performance in our products and energy savings for our customers. The U-Factor (or heat transfer) of our units is very low at 0.54. The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (how well a product blocks heat caused by sunlight) is also very minimal at 0.23. As an added benefit, Natural Light tubular skylights also block out harmful UV rays that can fade clothing, furniture and carpeting.
Tubular skylights installed on residential homes qualify for a 30% federal tax credit in the Solar Energy Systems category under Photovoltaic Systems as defined in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. In order to qualify for the tax credits the skylight must be paired with our Solar LED Light Kit.
U-Factor measures the rate of heat transfer and tells you how well the skylight insulates. U-factor values generally range from 0.20 to 1.25 and are measured in Btu/h ft2 °F. The lower the U-factor, the better the skylight insulates.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures the fraction of solar energy transmitted and tells you how well the product blocks heat caused by sunlight. SHGC is measured on a scale of 0 to 1; values typically range from 0.20 to 0.80. The lower the SHGC, the less solar heat the skylight transmits. The Solar Heat Gain for Natural Light is 0.23.
To assist with claiming a tax credit, Natural Light has provided a Statement of Certification for homeowners. Please download and complete the form and keep it with your tax records. The Statement of Certification is not required to be filed with your forms, but income tax regulations require taxpayers to have appropriate documentation to qualify for a tax credit.
